DANUBE DELTA & BUCHAREST, Rumania

Danube Delta

The Danube passes through Austria and you think about how far this water travels but you never think how it travels, where it comes from and which places it passes on its journey.  Most of the rivers which have its source in Austria will end up in the Danube. The Danube travels from its source through 4 Capital cities; Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade and travels through or passes the countries Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Rumania, Moldova, and Ukraine before it separates into 3 branches which run through the Danube delta before into leads into the Black Sea.

The Danube Delta is an area of over 5.000 km² where nature and wildlife meets together. The Danube delta is the best preserved delta on this continent and is the second largest after Volga Delta in Russia. The delta hosts over 300 species of birds and 45 species of fresh water fishes.

I visited Tulcea for a night where I got hosted from the scouts of Tulcea. As I arrived in Sulina with the ferry from Tulcea as there there is no other option, I wondered around the town visited the light house and got in contact with an lady which gave me a room for the least price I could get a room for. I stayed in here flat, she cooked for me gave me palinca and I was all happy. I went on a boat tour which was overpriced and not well organiced. But there are good tours out there, that’s for sure. I saw a few ice-birds, Cormorans, Pelicans and lots of other species of birds.

I went to the beach with the French woman I forgot the name of and had a little nap after lunch in the sand behind a dune. I was glad that I covered my face completely. Sand is something tricky, this stuff goes everywhere.

On the way back from Sulina at 7:00 o’clock in the morning I met a few guys from Israel which I spend most of my time with on the boat. It’s a very slow boat therefor we had our first beer at 8:00am. I also ended up going with them for a coffee / beer in Tulcea where we discussed the evening program. In the end I stayed with them for a night and got drunk with them.

Since that point I travelled with them.

Bucharest

I went with them in their car to Bucharest and also booked myself a bed in the downtown hostel. First for one night but it turned into a fantastic stay of 4 nights. Bucharest, I haven’t seem much from the city, the stuff I wanted to see where closed at the time we went and I was not much into the city anyway. However we have partied a lot specially the first night, we have danced for everybody around us, we have visited the ‘folk you festival’ to the shittiest bar and the place with the most interesting music (in a good way).

Except of partying we have been to the AVAAZ Bucharest Climate March where we created a Banner which was carried along the street during the protests. We watched the lightshow of Bucharest 555 year anniversary in front of the Peoples house (House of Parliament) and we celebrated Omri’s birthday on the roof from a 12 story building which was in the centre and we had a fantastic view.

Overall Bucharest was a good trip because of good company thanks to Claudia, Lexa, Omri, Barak, Dor, Itai, and all the other people I have meet in Bucharest.

I was not very much inspired in Bucharest which you can see on the pictures.
