TONSAI BAY - KOH LANTA, Thailand

Tonsai Bay

Back to Bangkok we had a stop for 3 Night where Rene joined us and we celebrated Stefan’s birthday. We took a Night Train from Bangkok to Krabi which is in the south of Thailand. The rain was great, everyone had his bunk bed, a little restaurant where we enjoyed our evening and morning and the scenery in the morning was very fascinating because of constant change.  From Krabi have we taken a Longboad to Tonsai Bay.

The first impression was terrible because the place looked like a dumpsite. After checking in at one of the bungalows at the back of the dumpsite and construction place it became better. The stay in total was great. We got a longboat for our self who took us to some island for snorkelling, swimming and for some beaches. As it was my first time for proper snorkelling I was constantly impressed. Every time I came back up I had a massive smile on my face like a little kid how discovered something new. The highlight was where I swam a little further from the cliffs and a huge turtle came towards me. She swam with a distance to us and made our way further into the deeper water. Later on we went to some cliffs where we did some free climbing and jumped into the water.

I met lots of new interesting people from all over the world how came to that place for rock climbing as the walls where right on the water. We spend a few days at this place before we took a ferry further south to Koh Lanta.

Koh Lanta

The island was a paradise for divers and snorkelers. Also for people how are there for party vacation. As we took a tuck tuck all the way to one of the southern bays, we had a quiet place away from the party tourism. Miriam did her Apnoe diving course for three days. Stefan and Tom (who we met on the bus and kept traveling with us) and I went on one of the diving boats to do some snorkelling. The reefs where breathtaking, we saw so many new corals and fishes. I never thought of myself that I could be so amazed of the sea.

For the next days we rented some motor bikes to travel the Island completely. We went through the tropical national forest, went to Old town and went to Koh Lanta Noi. We could arrange a boat trip with one of the locals at Koh Lanta Noi who has taken us to a nice ride around some Islands with huge cliffs, to a tiny beach and a pitch black cave which we have climbed into.

The Guy who as translated us the trip with the boat was from Spain and has lived one of the Island for some years and run a little Sailing resort until the Tsunami has ruined everything. But his stories from his Sailing trip where like reading a book.

We had beautiful sunsets every day and some nice thunder storms across the sea.

The Time on does places where not comparable with anything else. It was a unique experience in its own way.
